Screenshots Of Oblivion Remake Leaks Online

Summary

  • Virtuos Games accidentally uploaded several Oblivion remake screenshots to its website, along with key art and snapshots from the trailer.
  • Included in these assets is the PS5 logo, seemingly confirming that it won’t be an Xbox exclusive.
  • It’s also called the Oblivion “remaster”, despite reportedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5.

After years of rumours, leaks, and speculation, we finally have confirmation that the Oblivion remake is real.

As spotted by u/Taurnil (who inspected a “random image element” and found the uploads-folder), Virtuos Games accidentally uploaded a bunch of screenshots to its website, giving us our very first look at its revamped take on The Elder Scrolls 4. There are snapshots from an unreleased trailer, key art of a knight in Imperial armour standing in front of the Oblivion logo (which is engulfed in flames), and several shots of iconic areas, like the sewer exit at the very beginning, Ayleid ruins, and a new spriggan design that feels halfway between the original and Skyrim.

The Deluxe Edition also appears to include horse armour.

These assets also confirm a couple of key details: it doesn’t appear to be an Xbox exclusive, as there are PS5 logos included in the files, and it’s called Oblivion Remastered, despite reportedly being developed in Unreal Engine 5. In fact, the alleged former Virtuos employee who first leaked the Oblivion remake back in 2023, claiming that it was being developed in UE5, said that it was being worked on under the codename “Altar”, and many of the screenshots found today use that name.

Already, Virtuos has shut down access to the screenshots, as attempting to open any of the uploaded assets now lands you with a “403 Forbidden” page, warning that “You don’t have permission to access this resource”. This is the internet, so the images were immediately backed up, reuploaded, and are now spreading on social media.

But if reports are to be believed, we’ll be venturing back to Cyrodiil soon enough, anyway.

When Is The Oblivion Remake Releasing?

While there have been a lot of conflicting reports about when the Oblivion remake will finally launch, all of the leakers seem to agree on one thing: Bethesda and Microsoft are going to shadowdrop the game. Multiple insiders, such as Jeff Grubb, even claim that it will be released as soon as next week, coinciding with the end of The Elder Scrolls Online anniversary event.

With screenshots finally proving its existence, it’s never felt closer than it does right now.
