Characters We Want To See In The Mortal Kombat 2 Movie

The Mortal Kombat series arguably has the best plot and roster of any fighting game franchise. Mortal Kombat 2 will be another opportunity to see many of the series’ popular fighters come to life on the big screen. Whether it’s a great martial artist or a being with incredible super powers, there are countless directions Mortal Kombat 2 can go with its roster.

It is impossible to know the plot at this point, but based on how the first Mortal Kombat movie ended, there is a good chance Mortal Kombat 2 will feature the famed Mortal Kombat tournament. Regardless of the direction it takes, many exciting characters have yet to be revealed.

Stryker

In a world filled with monsters and kung-fu monks, having a police officer alongside beings like Goro and Raiden seems odd. Stryker has always been an outlier, but considering that Sonya and Jax are also cops and Johnny Cage is a Hollywood actor, his inclusion starts to feel more reasonable.

Stryker typically relies on firearms, which might look out of place in a Mortal Kombat movie. However, he could be reimagined as someone who uses a military fighting style like Krav Maga or Combat Sambo. He wouldn’t need a major role, but he could serve as a background character who gets beaten up by the villains to make them appear more menacing.

Sektor

After ninjas, cyborgs are the most common and popular class of characters in Mortal Kombat. Sektor has been a fan favorite for many years now, with his iconic red suit, laser swords, and deadly missiles.

Sektor can work as a good guy or a bad guy, but most likely will be an obstacle for Young, Sonya, and Jax to get past. A decent Sektor subplot could revolve around him being rewired to hunt down Raiden’s champions to weaken them before the tournament.

Rain

It is hard to say how Edenia will factor into Mortal Kombat 2, but Princess Kitana seems likely to have a significant role. Rain, a prince of Edenia, could serve as a supporting character to help establish the lore of the realm. He could be portrayed as a rival prince allied with Outworld, a jealous brother, or a spurned suitor seeking revenge.

Beyond his Edenian heritage, Rain also possesses unique and exciting abilities. As his name suggests, he can control lightning, rain, and stormy clouds. With creative use of CGI, a weather manipulator like Rain could become one of the most visually striking and memorable characters in Mortal Kombat 2.

Kenshi

Most of Mortal Kombat’s most beloved characters come from its 2D era, often considered the franchise’s golden age. Kenshi is one of the few characters introduced in the 21st century who has been widely embraced, and for good reason.

Like many Mortal Kombat fighters, he draws from classic kung fu movie tropes, portraying a visually impaired swordsman with incredible martial arts mastery. His slick red outfit would also stand out well on the big screen.

Additionally, Mortal Kombat (2021) featured gangs and terrorists. Kenshi’s background as a Yakuza hunter could make him a natural fit if Mortal Kombat 2 explores more human conflicts. Integrating him into this aspect of the story could provide an interesting way to introduce his character.

Onaga

Before Shao Khan became the Emperor of Outworld, there was Onaga. Known as the Dragon King due to his reptilian features, Onaga was incredibly powerful. He was usurped by Shao Khan generations before the events of most Mortal Kombat games, making him more suited for an Easter egg or a brief cameo in Mortal Kombat 2.

Exploring Shao Khan’s brutality and lack of honor could be enhanced through exposition about how he rose to power. Rather than relying solely on dialogue, a montage of Shao Khan slaying Onaga would be an effective way to expand the Mortal Kombat universe while also serving as a nod to longtime fans of the games.

Ermac

Scorpion was a major highlight of the first Mortal Kombat movie, with much of the story building toward Hanzo’s resurrection into his specter form. While Ermac is not as popular as Scorpion, he is another character whose power is drawn from the souls of the dead.

Ermac is an amalgamation of countless souls from Outworld’s wars, which gives him a distinct presence. As a being composed of multiple individuals, he speaks using plural pronouns such as “we” and “us.” Ermac would be a fitting enforcer for Shao Khan or Shang Tsung, especially if he were to battle Earth’s warriors in a graveyard setting.

Motaro

Rarely featured in games due to the challenge of designing his centaur-like body, Motaro remains one of the most feared Mortal Kombat bosses from the 90s. Known for his brutal difficulty, he served as a soldier of Shao Khan. Shang Tsung hinted that Outworld might send its army rather than individual fighters, which could be an opportunity for Motaro to appear.

Whether in a proper tournament or an all-out war, Motaro’s imposing physique makes him as much of a physical threat as Goro. He recently returned in Mortal Kombat 1 as a support character, suggesting that the series may be looking to reintroduce him to a wider audience.

Smoke

A versatile character who can be portrayed as either a ninja or a cyborg, Smoke’s ability to control gas and use stealth makes him an intriguing threat to the Mortal Kombat heroes. A scene in which Earth’s defenders explore an area while Smoke hunts them like a predator could add variety to the action in Mortal Kombat 2.

Narratively, Smoke is often linked to Noob Saibot, the original Sub-Zero who was killed and reborn. This connection could work well in Mortal Kombat 2, further expanding the lore. Additionally, if Smoke is badly injured in this film, it could set up his transformation into a cyborg like Sektor and Cyrax in a potential third movie.

Erron Black

Originally a comic book character, Erron Black has grown into one of the most popular recent additions to Mortal Kombat. A gun-slinging, 200-year-old mercenary outlaw, his extended lifespan in the Mortal Kombat movies could be explained by unlocking arcana. He could also be introduced as one of the few Earthlings capable of exploring Outworld, as he often does in the games.

Erron Black is a wild card who fights for the highest bidder and frequently aligns with Outworld despite being human. He seems like the perfect companion for Kano, who may be resurrected by Shang Tsung, making them a dangerous duo in Mortal Kombat 2.

Reptile

Old school fans of Mortal Kombat will remember Reptile as a green ninja pallet swap that was one of the most famous secret characters of his day. Reptile has evolved over the years into a more lizard like creature, crafting a more distinct personality and move set from most of the other ninjas.

Outworld needs characters that look freightening such as Barracka and Mileena, so a humanoid-Lizard seems like a great fit. They could feature Reptile in a more nimble, ninja like look, and then have him transform into a bulky dragon-like creature to escalate a fight.
