Marvel Rivals’ popularity isn’t going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean the fanbase is always pleased with the state of the game. In fact, as with any online shooter, everyone has their own idea of what the biggest issue facing the game is at any given moment. But many fans are aligned on one issue: there aren’t enough people willing to play Vanguard.
Vanguards, or tanks, have the least amount of heroes in the roster. However, that doesn’t mean that they are any less essential than Duelists and Startegists. In fact, triple Stategist, triple Vanguard, was the meta around launch. But now, it seems that no one is interested in playing the role.
No One Is Playing Vanguard In Marvel Rivals
“I’m a tank main and I’m so damn tired of solo tanking. Every f**king game,” writes Reddit user Kevuin17. “I really enjoy tanks and especially like Cap and Venom with a bit of Hulk and Thor but I am forced to go Strange or Mag because I am ALWAYS solo tank.”
The post has blown up, as it turns out that many, many other players are noticing this too. “I’ve had games where we had 1 tank, so I picked a 2nd tank to fill and our 1st swapped to DPS,” writes RevolutionNo4186.
It’s enough for some players to call on the devs to roll out a role queue, although NetEase has been clear that it has no intention of doing this anytime soon. Still, there are some steps the devs could take, such as addressing some of the complaints players have about the role.
“Most tanks don’t have fun gameplay,” argues Half-White_Moustache. “Low speed attacks, long cooldowns or lackluster skills.”
“Developers NEED to add more tanks,” says aliencreative. “I get bored of playing Peni and I cannot stand playing the other tanks.”
Many also argue that Vanguard characters are too reliant on communication with the rest of the team – something you probably won’t find if you solo-queue.
It’s unclear how NetEase will handle this – or if it will at all. It does track pick rates, so if this is a real issue beyond all of our anecdotes, then it will know about it. In the meantime, maybe us Strategists should throw in some extra heals for all of the long-suffering solo tanks…
