Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Bitterly Disappointed We’ll Never Get A Jaheira Romance

Summary

  • Baldur’s Gate 3’s final patch being released means players will never get an option to romance Jaheira.
  • Jaheira’s voice actor, Tracy Wiles, was an advocate for a Jaheira romance for a long time.
  • Fans are still expressing their disappointment about the lack of a Jaheira romance.

Baldur’s Gate 3 recently received its eighth and final patch, which added crossplay, photo mode and a new subclass for each of the game’s classes. Larian Studios has been firm in its messaging this time: there won’t be any more major patches for Baldur’s Gate 3.

That’s completely fine in the eyes of the community. Larian has added more free post-launch content to Baldur’s Gate 3 than anyone could have expected or hoped for. However, the finality of Patch 8 means players can no longer hold hope in their hearts for future additions. These players are experiencing the five stages of grief and are approaching acceptance.

One of the adversely affected groups in the Baldur’s Gate 3 fandom are the people who desperately wanted a post-launch Jaheira romance, even though it always seemed unlikely. Jaheira’s voice actor, Tracy Wiles, has long been an advocate for the addition of a post-launch Jaheira romance. Unfortunately for lovers of the half-elf, Larian head Swen Vincke shot the idea down late last year with a prompt “God says no.”

Jaheira Will Remain Un-Romanced

Before Patch 8 was released, there was always the chance that Vincke was simply baiting the community, and Jaheira’s adoring fans were, in actuality, only a few short months from entering the loving embrace of the High Harper. Unfortunately, we now know this was not to be.

A recent Reddit thread was titled a simple rallying cry, “Anyone else mad you can’t romance Jaheira?”. The popularity of these posts is evergreen, given how beloved the druid is. “Can’t romance old ladies, can’t romance goblins… Larian has truly fumbled the romance options,” writes Arumhal. Although their comment is tongue-in-cheek, there is a sizeable number of players who are disappointed that there aren’t any older romance options.

There are constant references to the original Baldur’s Gate character Khalid when the idea of a Jaheira romance is brought up. Discarding the fact that Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place a hundred years after Baldur’s Gate 2, the latter already has a Jaheira romance that’s quite tastefully done. It’s a slow-built romance as Jaheira deals with the trauma of losing Khalid.

Given the promiscuity of Baldur’s Gate 3’s cast, Jaheira’s slow-burn romance in Baldur’s Gate 2 makes her appear saintlike in comparison to her new companions.

Unfortunately, Jaheira will never be a romance option in Baldur’s Gate 3. Regardless, she remains the mother of the party and a breath of fresh air in the sometimes bleak world of Faerun.
