The Nintendo Switch 2 finally has a release date, June 5, and it costs $449.99, or $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle.

During the dedicated showcase, Nintendo pulled back the plastic and gave us a few key details about the new hardware. Namely, about its screen. It’s not OLED like the first Switch’s mid-gen refresh model, instead opting for a return to LCD, but with a few major improvements.

Screen Size, The C Button, And Storage Capacity: All The Key Switch 2 Details

It comes in at 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1080p, and it even supports HDR. So, you can expect a crisper picture with deeper, more pronounced colours. The Switch 2 will also support up to 120fps, so while we didn’t find out much about the inner workings of the hardware itself, we can at least glean from that — and the various third-party ports, like Elden Ring — that it’s a fairly capable rig.

There’s also a huge increase to storage capacity, with the Switch 2 boasting 256GB out of the box, a significant leap from the original’s mere 32GB. Nintendo also confirmed reports that the new magnetic Joy-Cons would double as mice. That has now been confirmed, and we even got to see it being used in Mario Party Jamboree for several minigames, as well as Metroid Prime 4, essentially turning it into a PC shooter with mouse aiming.

As for the mysterious ‘C’ button everyone has been speculating about for the last few weeks, it turns out that it opens “GameChat”, a new Discord-like social menu where you can video call your friends and share your screen, similar to PlayStation and Xbox. However, you need an NSO subscription to use the feature.

Nintendo also spent a chunk of the showcase dedicated to all the third-party games coming to the platform, just as it did with the first Switch, and there are some heavy hitters to note. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, the Game of the Year-winning open-world FromSoftware epic, joins Hades 2, Street Fighter 6, Split Fiction, and more, with future releases like IO Interactive’s Project 007 also set to release day and date on the Switch 2.
