Summary
- Move aside Starbucks cup, now we have ‘man in a plaid shirt hiding in the bushes’.
- In the newest episode of The Last of Us on HBO, a member of the crew can be seen lurking in the woods while Joel and Ellie ride their horses back to Jackson.
Way back in ye old 2019, one Game of Thrones scene went viral thanks to a suspiciously modern Starbucks cup that was left sitting on the table in front of Danaerys during a Winterfell feast (it was Lord Varys’, apparently). It was hardly fitting for a medieval banquet where wildlings were sipping ale from longhorns, so HBO quickly edited the blooper out. But it was far too late, as the cup took on a life of its own, immortalised by the internet as the blunder of all blunders.
In fairness, it’s not as bad as the car you can spot in The Fellowship of The Ring.
But it’s not the only HBO mess-up to grace our screens. As spotted by u/WitT21, there’s a scene in the newest episode of The Last of Us where you can see a man in a plaid shirt and cowboy hat hiding in the bushes from Joel and Ellie while they ride through the woods on horseback. The Starbucks cup was a funny little blooper, but honestly, plaid shirt man is eerie. He’s just watching… ominously.
You can see it for yourself below (and don’t worry, there aren’t any spoilers).
When Does The Blooper Happen?
If you haven’t seen the episode yet, but want to keep an eye out for the mystery man when you do get around to watching it, or if you just want to go back and see the blooper before HBO inevitably edits it out, I’m not sure a time stamp will help. u/CrAZiBoUnCeR claims that they saw it at 37:28, whereas u/Admirable-Fennel-247 swears by 35:41. I checked both, and neither were right. Instead, I caught the blooper at 33:31.
One of those might be the right answer for you — I have no idea why it’s so varied. Just keep your eyes peeled around the 30-minute mark, and you’ll spot the man shortly after Joel radios Jackson to say they’ll be there in ten minutes. He has a little spat with Ellie, the two make a beeline for the town, and for a brief moment, when it cuts to the pair rushing out of the woods, you can see Mr. Plaid himself to the left.
It’s probably just a member of the crew who didn’t realise they’d be caught in the shot, but either way, it’s a funny little blooper that’s hard to miss. It’s just a shame he wasn’t sipping coffee from a Starbucks cup while he watched on from the bushes.
