Summary
- Palworld’s hypothetical dating simulator spin-off More than Pals might be real, after all.
- A Steam page for More than Pals has been released, featuring new characters.
- More than Pals could be releasing tomorrow if last year’s video is to be believed.
Last April Fool’s Day, Pocketpair teased Palworld: More Than Pals, a dating simulator spin-off of the studio’s survival game Palworld. The stunt may have been an April Fools joke, but it turns out there was an actual hunger among the community members to see, and I’m quoting Pocketpair here, “Pals take off their clothes.”
The ending slide of the original trailer promised a release date on April 1, 2025. Although most players thought this was a joke, Pocketpair’s publishing manager, John Buckley, actually mentioned More than Pals during his talk at Game Developer Conference 2025: “We teased a totally not real, or maybe real, Palworld dating simulator last year that’s slated to release this April Fools, maybe, or maybe not. I guess we’ll see,” he teased.
Chat, Date and Eat?
The sacred date is almost upon us, and Pocketpair has provided an update on the hypothetical dating sim. A social media post from the studio announced the release of a Steam page for More than Pals, urging fans to wishlist the game.
“What lies inside the mysterious World Tree? An exciting school life filled with cute Pals!” the Steam description reads. “Will you remain friends or fall in love? Or dismantle and eat them. Your dream school romance starts here in this Palworld dating sim!”
Well, I certainly hope the dismemberment and consumption of one’s beloved pal is consensual. More than Pals features the classic dating simulator setting, a high school. The protagonist is a transfer student at the Palagos Private Academy, with multiple fellow students (romantic partners) already announced.
The images are… as you might imagine. Upon opening the page, you’re immediately met with the character Chillet drooling, with the dialogue “When you stroke right there, ah, ah….” visible underneath. But the real star of the show is Black Marketeer, an evil-looking entity that appears to insist upon dating you. Perhaps we can eat him.
It’s not only the students you can spark a romance with, you also appear to be able to sleep with the alcoholic school nurse if you wish. That is, of course, if More than Pals is actually a real game and not just the continuation of last year’s stunt.
Although last year’s trailer promised an April 1 release, and Buckley’s recent comments also suggest this, it’s strange that Pocketpair is asking for wishlists if the studio is planning to release the game in less than 24 hours. Either way, we’ll know the truth very soon.
