Marvel Rivals Players Hate The New Currency

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals now has four currencies, as a recent update added another.
  • They cannot be purchased directly, and have to be converted from Lattice.
  • Fans are worried that this is the start of a trend, with more currencies being added in the future.

Marvel Rivals fans were excited by the prospect of customising the colour of certain skins. However, when this turned out to be incredibly limited and cost money even if you owned the original skin, many were disappointed.

Even worse, it’s added yet another currency to the game in the form of Unstable Molecules. This means that there are now four different microcurrencies across the entire game, with all of them having different purposes and methods of being earned. It’s enough to make fans fear that even more will be added as the game continues, since we’re only in Season 2 and are already being presented with a new one to purchase.

Marvel Rivals Players Are Worried That NetEase Will Add Even More Currency

You can’t buy Unstable Molecules directly, so you’ll have to convert your Lattice into the amount that you need. Since the conversion rate is 1:1 and skin recolours cost 600 Unstable Molecules, that means that they actually cost around $6 if you pick up Lattice in a bundle of 500 and 100. Considering how easy that is to find out, it’s baffling that they don’t just use Lattice.

Players are complaining about this in a post poking fun at the new currency, fearing that even more will be added in future updates.

“Mobile game behavior tbh,” says Reddit user STB_LuisEnriq. “By that point, the game would be just another classic NetEase game.”

This is a very common sentiment among fans. “People were already criticizing the game [for] looking like a mobile game, and this is the route they chose with the currency system,” says Ultimate_Decoy. “Nothing prevented the colors [from] just straight up costing one of the already existing currencies. Greed is winning once again.”

“I will accept one paid currency and one that can be earned for free. That’s it. And if they want to let you convert [it for] free, that’s fine,” adds xX420GanjaWarlordXx. “Whatever the f**k is going on right now is getting out of hand and it genuinely makes me want to stop supporting them.”

The other currencies in Marvel Rivals are Units and Chrono Tokens.

All in all, this appears to be a rare miss for NetEase – at least in terms of how it’s handled Marvel Rivals. Up until this point, many had praised the more consumer-friendly aspects of the game, like letting players keep their battle passes indefinitely. Hopefully, this new currency is not a sign of things to come.
