Summary
- An Elden Ring film is reportedly in the works at A24.
- Alex Garland, best known for 28 Days Later and Ex Machina, is said to be the director.
- If the report is accurate, then filming begins next year.
Elden Ring is reportedly getting a film, which will start shooting next year. A24 is said to be producing the film, and a director has already been attached.
This was just reported by Nexus Point News, which states that Alex Garland, director of films such as Ex Machina and Civil War, will direct the adaptation. We don’t have much more information than that, and the article has been pulled at the time of writing, but this wouldn’t be the first we’ve heard of an Elden Ring film.
Elden Ring Film Reportedly In The Works Following Talk Earlier This Year
While the film has not been officially announced, this lines up with what we heard from George R.R. Martin, who worked on the lore for Elden Ring. Back in February of this year, he said that there had been “some talk” of Elden Ring being adapted into a film, but that he would not be very involved due to his work on the next A Song of Ice and Fire, The Winds of Winter, which he is still writing.
This would be the first time that a FromSoftware game has ever been adapted into a film. Despite its popularity, the Dark Souls series never spawned one, but it seems the huge success of Elden Ring was enough to get the film industry interested. Either that, or there’s just more potential with Elden Ring.
Given how Elden Ring plays – and how the player can design their Tarnished however they like – it remains to be seen how Elden Ring is turned into a film. We may get a loose adaptation of the events we see in-game, or it could tell an original story within the lore. Either way, the writers and director have quite the task ahead of them, and a lot of fans to please.
