Bannerlord Is Getting A Feudal Japan Conversion Mod

Summary

  • Shokuho is a total conversion mod for Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord.
  • Shokuho is based on the Sengoku Period of Japanese history.
  • It’s a spiritual successor to the Gekojujo mod for Mount and Blade: Warband.

Mount & Blade has always been a series ripe for modding — Mount & Blade: Warband has several widely-played mods, such as the famous Prophesy of Pendor, the dozens of Game of Thrones conversion mods and the Sengoku Japan conversion mod, Gekojujo.

Gekojujo is especially relevant given that a spiritual successor has emerged, a wonderful-looking conversion mod for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord called Shokuho. The team behind the mod published a release date trailer, featuring a full voice-over from a Japanese voice actor.

The Shokuho team revealed four years ago that the creator of Gekojujo had joined the team to contribute to Shokuho. The team has been working on the mod for over four years.

Welcome to the Sengoku Jidai

Shokuho looks splendid and could be the next obsession for those looking for the next Gekojujo. The mechanics of Mount & Blade, as a series, are wonderfully set-up to emulate territory-wide conflicts like we saw in Japan during the Sengoku Period (or in Westeros during the War of the Five Kings, as another example).

The description of the trailer reads as follows:”In the chaos of the Sengoku Jidai, experience feudal Japan during one of its most tumultuous eras. From ambitious samurai climbing the ladders of power to ronin looting war-torn fields, enjoy the war-stricken world of Shokuho.”

The trailer depicts samurai duelling, large-scale battles on open fields, as well as peaceful moments in the villages and towns of feudal Japan. From initial impressions, Shokuho seems a comprehensive experience.

Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord Shokuho Siege

The video already has hundreds of excited commenters. People tend to forget that Mount & Blade has a very dedicated player base, and sometimes all players need is a well-made mod to return to the fold, especially a mod like Shokuho, which captures the essence of Gekojujo.

Sengoku Japan has never really wavered in its popularity as a setting, but it has been especially prevalent over the last couple of years. With Shogun, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei, we’re seeing a rise in the popularity of Western adaptations of this period of Japanese history.

Shokuho is scheduled to release sometime in June, according to the trailer.
