Summary
- It’s been claimed that something BioShock-related will be announced by 2K, possibly by the end of the summer.
- According to the report, the project will heavily feature Rapture, and could be anything from BioShock 4 to a full remake.
- It’s also possible we could finally see the announcement of the BioShock movie, which has been in the works for a number of years.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything about BioShock lately, with the last proper game in the series coming over a decade ago, way back in 2013. We’ve had some remasters and the promise of a movie adaptation since then, but it’s been all quiet on the BioShock front, understandably convincing some that the franchise is just dead and never coming back.
Thankfully, it does sound like there are signs of life, as it has been claimed that something BioShock-related is going to be announced before the end of summer. This info comes from a new report from Kurakasis for MP1st, an insider who accurately leaked the title of the recently announced Star Wars: Zero Company tactics game.
BioShock Will Reportedly Get An Announcement This Summer
According to Kurakasis, they received information that BioShock developer 2K is preparing for an announcement that will happen “fairly soon”, though they admit they don’t know exactly when. They claim that it will likely happen before the end of the summer, which seems likely given that we have a bunch of confirmed showcases and a rumored State of Play coming next month.

Things get a bit muddier when Kurakasis starts talking about exactly what this announcement will be. All that they know is the info they’ve been given seems to suggest that Rapture will be involved pretty heavily, with clear references to the original BioShock released in 2007. That narrows it down a bit, but it also means this could be one of many projects.
One of the unlikeliest possibilities is that this is BioShock 4, as it would be pretty strange for the next BioShock game to revisit the original so heavily based on where the series was going in Infinite. It feels more likely that this could be a remake or a remaster that is about to be announced, especially with the series having been dormant for so long.
There’s also the possibility this may not be a game announcement at all. For a while now, a movie adaptation of the original BioShock has been in the works at Netflix, the latest update revealing that its budget has been slashed due to the change of leadership at the company in 2024. Last we heard, it’s still coming though, so we may see an announcement soon. It sounds as though we won’t have to wait too long to find out exactly what it is though.
