Baldur’s Gate 3 Devs Larian May Have Just Given Away Its Next Game

Update: Larian director Michael Douse has dashed the hopes of those who thought the handle change might hint at a new Divinity: Original Sin. The tweet, which you can check out below, explaining the situation reveals Larian is simply taking back any handles it can find related to its IPs. Twitter mistakenly switched the Larian handle to Divinity when returning it to the studio.

Summary

  • Larian Studios may have just given away what its next game is going to be.
  • A recent change to Larian’s Twitter account was spotted earlier today, as the handle changed from @larianstudios to @divinity.
  • It has since been switched back again, which means it could be nothing, but you can’t help but get your hopes up for Divinity 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is finally moving onto new projects, having recently released its last “major patch” in Patch 8 last month. We don’t know much about whatever Larian is working on next, apart from the fact that the studio is in no rush to reveal its plans, and that it’s actually working on two different games at the same time. What those games are, nobody really knows.

There are a few guesses we can make, and the OG Larian enjoyers out there will always hold a candle for the Divinity series. Divinity: Original Sin 2 arguably kickstarted Larian’s rise to fame, and it’s possible that the studio could seek to go back to its roots now that its foray into the world of Dungeons & Dragons has come to a close.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Devs Larian May Have Just Given Away Its Next Game

In fact, Larian itself may have just accidentally teased that’s exactly what it’s going to do. In a rather bizarre and surprising change to Larian’s official Twitter account, the handle for the account was very briefly switched from the current @larianstudios to simply @divinity. It was quickly switched back, but not before fans noticed the change, and thankfully, we also grabbed a screenshot.

Larian's Twitter profile picture and handle

Now, this could mean absolutely nothing, but it’s worth noting that the Divinity series doesn’t actually have an official Twitter account, probably down to how niche it was back before Baldur’s Gate 3 exploded in popularity and Larian’s name really took off. That means this could be someone at Larian fiddling around with the socials, readying themselves for an official announcement soon.

If Larian is getting ready to reveal something, they’re doing it at the right time too. With just over a week of May left, we’re officially heading into video game reveal season, with big events like Summer Game Fest and Xbox’s yearly showcase coming pretty soon. It’s possible we could get something from Larian at either of these events, even if it’s just a small teaser or trailer.

That’s the best case scenario though, and it’s probably best not to get too excited about something as minor as a brief Twitter handle change. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long to find out for sure if Larian is cooking up something Divinity-related.
