Marvel Rivals Fans Are Calling For Less Asian-Themed Skins

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals is giving Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch some Chinese-themed skins, which has prompted some to start calling for more comic book looks instead.
  • Most of the complaints seem to be aimed at how many Asian-themed skins we’ve been getting, whether they be from Chinese New Year or the Peach Momoko collab.
  • There are a few people that think the problem is magnified by how much these skins don’t fit the game’s aesthetic, and that more comic book skins are needed to balance things out.

Marvel Rivals has a lot of problems at the moment, but the one area in which you can argue that it’s been killing it is in the skins department. It feels like almost every hero has one or two cool new skins to show off right now, which is pretty good going considering the game isn’t even six months old.

In fact, it was announced that Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch will be getting some new skins via the game’s store, but for what feels like the first time since launch, a lot of people don’t seem to be particularly pleased. While you’ll see a lot of people admiring te skins themselves, bubbling under the surface appears to be a group of Marvel Rivals players upset about all the Asian-themed skins we’ve been getting ever since Chinese New Year in February.

Marvel Rivals Fans Are Calling For Less Asian-Themed Skins

You can see quite a few examples of this in a Reddit post by a user called BoltexGaming, with quite a few people getting tired of the Chinese and Japanese-inspired outfits that have been releasing quite consistently, with Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch being the two most recent.

“Mandatory Chinese skins to keep the hometown happy” – POXELUS

Most of the complaints seem to stem from the frequency of them, coupled with complaints that Marvel Rivals doesn’t seem to be taking inspiration from the comics for many of its skins. For example, a user called ComicDaddyMax asks “where are the comic looks”, while another user called SaintLarfleeze hopes that we’ll start getting skins that “aren’t just Chinese versions of the characters”.

There does also seem to be some complaints that these skins also “don’t fit the game’s aesthetic”, and that they turn heroes into “completely different characters”, but most people seem to be fine with them apart from the frequency at which they’re released.

Of course, summer is fast-approaching, which means we should start getting a lot more summer skins pretty soon, as we’ve already seen with Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon. Most characters in the game have Chinese and Japanese-themed skins already, and the Peach Momoko skins are all now out, so we should start getting a bit more variety in the coming weeks. I just hope my boy Jeff gets some love soon.
