Ancient Super Smash Bros. Melee Bug Unceremoniously Ends Tournament Grand Finals

Summary

  • Full House 2025 ended suddenly after Moky lost his last stock to a rare bug.
  • The bug is caused by Pokémon Stadium’s transformations.
  • Some people believe Moky threw for “content,” but that seems unlikely.

Full House 2025, a major invite-only Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament, ended unceremoniously as one of the competitors lost his last stock to a rare bug on Pokémon Stadium, which involves a specific set of inputs to trigger.

After losing to Cody Schwab in Winner’s Finals, Kurtis “Moky” Pratt bested Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma in Loser’s Finals to set up a rematch against Schwab in Grand Finals. Although Winner’s Finals were a close affair, with Schwab narrowly edging out Pratt in a 3-2 victory, the Grand Finals were more dominant for Schwab, who took a 2-0 lead into the third game.

An Unfortunate End

During the third game, both players were down to their last stock, and Moky had a significant percentage advantage. The two were in a neutral game state, both waiting for the right time to engage. As the stadium transforms, Moky appears to be pushed under the platform, costing him the stock, the game, the set and ultimately the tournament.

Although Moky was at a two-game deficit, anything is possible in Melee, and there was every chance the Canadian could have mounted a comeback had he won that game.

There’s some speculation that Moky intentionally triggered the bug for “content” since he was already two games behind, but that seems far-fetched considering a player isn’t at any inherent disadvantage just because they’re behind on score.

He also posted on social media after the event, saying “There’s just no way LMAO,” which suggests the ending was a freak accident, rather than anything pre-planned by Moky.

The ultimate victor, Cody Schwab, continues his dominant reign, winning seven of his last nine tournaments. As of the SSBM Rankings 2024, Schwab is ranked as the second-best Melee player in the world, after Zain Naghmi. However, Zain has been experiencing a fallow 2025 so far, only winning a single tournament, Battle of British Columbia 7.

Moky, meanwhile, is ranked fourth on the SSBM Rankings 2024. He’s been knocked out by Cody Schwab in three of the four tournaments he’s entered this year.
