Oblivion Remastered Player Helps Glarthir Survive The Paranoia Quest

Summary

  • Glarthir gives Oblivion players one of the best side quests in the game, Paranoia.
  • Usually, the quest always ends with his death.
  • However, one player managed to keep him alive, although it cost a lot of time and money.

Poor Glarthir. He’s one of the most memorable NPCs in Oblivion, and yet, he almost definitely dies in most playthroughs. In fact, there’s usually no way to complete his quest, Paranoia, without him being killed at the end. Ultimately, he goes hostile against someone, whether that be the guards, one of his neighbours, or even the player, and gets into a fight he is not equipped to win.

However, one Oblivion Remastered player made it their mission to keep him alive, albeit without directly helping Glarthir murder people and attract the ire of the guards. As spotted by GamesRadar+, a Reddit user pumped Glarthir full of buffs, preparing him for the fight of a lifetime.

Yes, Glarthir Can Survive Paranoia – If You’re Dedicated

This absolutely wild way to approach Paranoia comes to us courtesy of Reddit user Plane-Session-6624. They documented their attempts to save Glarthir over on the Oblivion subreddit and asked the community for advice on how to perfect the method.

One of the first hurdles they had to get past was that there is no way to directly place something in someone else’s inventory, meaning they had to rely on buffing his stats rather than improving his equipment. So, they got to work on acquiring the spells to make this happen, buffing Glarthir’s ability with blunt weapons, as well as his endurance, agility, and endurance.

And… it worked. After spending thousands of gold, Plane-Session-6624 created what they describe as “Super Saiyan Glarthir”, and he’s still alive. To put a long story short (although you should absolutely read the full Reddit post), Glarthir killed everyone he suspected of spying on him, as well as the guard who would usually kill him.

“Dead guards [litter] the streets, Glarthir walks without a care in the world,” says Plane-Session-6624, recounting the aftermath. “A guard sees him, runs up to him…. and does nothing? Glarthir continues on his way without confrontation. The guards appear to know better than to confront him.”

The best part is that Glarthir refuses to talk to the player. “Really Glarthir? After everything I did for you?” Plane-Session-6624 says, quite understandably.
