It’s not often crossover skins aren’t either locked behind a battle pass or cosmetics you need to pay for, but some Fortnite fans have floated a theory as to why Epic and Amazon are willing to part with the Dupli-Kate skin free of charge. A post on the r/FortNiteBR subreddit from u/Basketball8907, which has since been deleted for some reason, asked Invincible fans if there’s a reason why Epic doesn’t think people would be willing to pay for a Dupli-Kate skin.
Fortnite’s Upcoming Dupli-Kate Skin Is Free If You Complete Quests
Probably To Encourage Squads Of Players To All Wear It Together
The top reply to that deleted post, from u/CruellaInFortnite, suggests the skin isn’t unlockable through quests because Epic doesn’t think people would be willing to pay for it, but because it wants as many people wearing the Dupli-Kate outfit as possible this weekend. Dupli-Kate’s superpower is that she can make copies of herself, and if multiple players in the same match are using her skin, it will give off the impression that Dupli-Kate can use her powers in Fortnite.
If you play in a squad, all of you will be able to drop in as Dupli-Kate once you’ve unlocked the skin and pretend you’re effectively the same player. You might even bump into a rival squad doing the same thing. The illusion might start to fall apart once the two teams of Dupli-Kates open fire on one another, though. I’ve not read the comics so I don’t know if this eventually happens, but in the show, Dupli-Kates duplicates have never fought against one another.
There are more crossovers to come in Fortnite this season. Details about an upcoming Tomb Raider collab have revealed Lara Croft will be back, getting a new Fortnite skin for the first time since 2021. The previous Lara Croft skins are incredibly rare as they were battle pass rewards that have never been added to the Item Shop.
