One Of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Least Popular Races Has By Far The Most Unique Dialogue

Summary

  • Githyanki is one of the least played races in Baldur’s Gate 3, but has by far the most amount of unique dialogue.
  • The rarer races often have more dialogue.
  • The most-played races in Baldur’s Gate 3 have the least amount of unique dialogue.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game of many possibilities and permutations, especially in character creation. Unfortunately, most people wind up as Half-Elf Paladins or Human Sorcerers, but a lack of imagination isn’t a crime.

Fortunately, those who choose less-beloved racial options are often rewarded with far more unique dialogue than those who don’t.

That Which is Rare is Wonderful

According to data gathered by Reddit user ZaunKongin, the player race in Baldur’s Gate 3 with the most racial dialogue tags is Githyanki, and it’s not close.

There are over 260 dialogue options tagged with Githyanki, with Lolth-Sworn Drow in second place, at just over 80. Duergar Dwarf (~78), Seldarine Drow (~76), and Mephisto Tiefling (~42) round out the top five.

Human (~3), High Half-Elf (~10), Wood Half-Elf (~11), Drow Half-Elf (~21), and Rock Gnome (~22) make up the chart’s bottom five.

If we collate this with data released by Larian Studios about the most-played races in Baldur’s Gate 3, we can observe an interesting parallel. The most-played races in Baldur’s Gate 3 are Half-Elf, Human and Elf. The least-played, in order of least to most, are Halfling, Gnome, Dwarf and Githyanki.

In other words, the most-played races have the least amount of unique dialogue, and the least-played race has the most amount of unique dialogue.

This makes sense, as people gravitate towards conventionally attractive characters. Elves and Humans are the most human-looking races, i.e. the most attractive to most people. However, they’re also the most populous races on the Sword Coast, meaning there are fewer situations where their race is relevant to the conversation.

Githyanki, on the other hand, are very uncommon and are extremely relevant to the narrative of Baldur’s Gate 3. Unfortunately, there aren’t many players willing to play as a reptile-human hybrid, but perhaps they are more likely to do so on a subsequent playthrough, after discovering how relevant the race is to the game’s narrative.

So, next time you load up a new playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, why not swear your life to Vlaakith and dedicate yourself to the eradication of the Illithid scourge?
