Marvel Rivals Makes A Mistake With Phoenix’s Character Model, Removing Her Freckles

Marvel Rivals has done the unforgivable, robbing Phoenix of her freckles. As spotted by eagle-eyed players trying out the new hero, Phoenix’s in-game model doesn’t feature the freckles that we see in her preview, and this isn’t the only discrepancy we’re seeing with her character.

In another instance, her Chaos Phoenix skin looks much better in the preview, but is noticeably of a worse quality when you actually equip it. And yes, it robs her of her freckles once again, and no one knows why.

Why Do Phoenix’s Freckles Keep Disappearing In Marvel Rivals?

Fans are sharing examples of her disappearing freckles on social media, showing that there is a huge difference in the previews and artwork we got for Phoenix, and her final character model. While we do expect some visual downgrades between what we get in cinematics and during gameplay, this is a bit much, and even worse when you look at the downgraded visuals for a skin that players might fork over real money for.

This is far from the first time that the visuals of Marvel Rivals have come under fire. Fans recently went after Punisher’s MCU skin, arguing that it looks way too similar to his default to justify paying for. In fact, it was even more simplistic than his default, so I suppose it’s passable if you’re looking for minimalism.

There have been times when these complaints have been addressed, however. We saw this fairly recently with Doctor Strange’s zombie skin, which was missing the zombie hands we saw advertised. These are now present in the game if you have the skin, even when you’re in a match. So, with any luck, Phoenix’s face will be adorned with freckles once more – and her Chaos Phoenix skin will look as good as advertised.

In the meantime, Phoenix is available to play now, having joined the Marvel Rivals roster on July 11. This kicked off the start of Season 3, after Season 2 was met with a mixed reception among the playerbase.
