Dune: Awakening has a problem that Funcom just can’t seem to deal with. It started with PvP players smashing indestructible ornithopters onto opponents, but while that has been fixed, the griefers have evolved. The Deep Desert PvP zone now has around 50 percent of its space allocated for PvE players, but the griefers have found creative ways to mess with those who don’t want to engage in PvE.
Since a large portion of the player base prefers playing PvE, there have been complaints about griefing for weeks. Understandably, this has resulted in a number of players abandoning the game or waiting till Funcom addresses the situation properly. In lieu of this exodus, players have been coming across eerie abandoned bases in the sand, filled with resources.
Dune: Awakening Is Filled With Abandoned Bases
As showcased by Actuary_Beginning on Reddit, they came across an abandoned base during their time in the game, filled with tons of gold, gear, and valuable resources. While they were thankful for their find, it led to the question of why an increasing number of abandoned bases have been spotted in the wild. The answer is pretty simple: players don’t feel the game is worth sticking to in the endgame.
Dune: Awakening’s endgame has been facing criticism for a while because there’s not much to do besides engaging in PvP. On top of that, those who are happy to continue are facing the wrath of griefers, making the game almost unplayable. It’s no wonder that they’ve simply abandoned all their hard work to get buried in the sand.
“I found an abandoned base last week that had tons of end game resources as well. Only 34k solari but I’m not complaining as I got a lot of resources that would have taken me ages to get solo,” noted one of the comments. “Lot of abandoned bases,” said another. “When I’m bored I go clean the desert of all those abandoned ugly cubes, and some have a lot of nice stuff inside.”
There were a number of other comments and even separate posts about players coming across abandoned bases, and SteamDB also marked a decline in the overall player count. While not all of them have probably left due to griefers, the endgame content sure didn’t do much to keep them around.
