Assassin’s Creed Shadows Isn’t The Most Popular Assassin’s Creed Game On Steam Right Now

Summary

  • In less than two months, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been dethroned on Steam as the most popular entry.
  • Its peak 24-hour player count has been beaten by Odyssey, which continues to be one of the most-played games on the platform.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been a huge success for Ubisoft. Within its first week, it reached over three million players, and in the months since, it became one of the best-selling games of 2025. However, on Steam, it has already been dethroned by an earlier entry in the series.

At the time of writing, Shadows has a peak 24-hour concurrent player count of 5,131, making it the second most-played game in the series. Edging slightly ahead is Odyssey, with a peak of 6,137. It’s not too surprising when you dig back through the data, though.

Shadows still has the highest all-time peak, with 64,825 players.

More than any other entry in the series, Odyssey has maintained an impressive peak player count over the years; in December, it reached a staggering 31,729 players, vastly outperforming the record-breaking success Valhalla, which reached just 5,456 players, and even the then-newly released Mirage, which peaked at 3,238.

The top five games in the series right now are a smattering of RPG entries, accompanied by the less appreciated Unity. That being said, it has undergone a critical reevaluation over the last few years, thanks in part to its sleek and unmatched parkour, but also because of its post-launch updates.

  1. Odyssey – 6,137
  2. Shadows – 5,131
  3. Valhalla – 2,272
  4. Origins – 2,215
  5. Unity – 1,374

The rest of the list is as follows: Black Flag (1,037), Brotherood (562), Assassin’s Creed 2 (510), Syndicate (445), Mirage (427), Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered (398), Revelations (335), Rogue (328), Assassin’s Creed (190), Assassin’s Creed 3 (27), Liberation (19).

Perhaps Shadows’ upcoming updates will help it claw back the top spot, as Ubisoft promises a major parkour overhaul alongside a “special collaboration”, speculated to be Star Wars. For now, though, Odyssey continues to be one of the most popular entires in the series.
