Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 31 Removes Minthara’s Pregnancy Cut Content

Summary

  • Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8 added dialogue that referenced Minthara having a child.
  • Hotfix 31 has removed it, confirming that it was unintentional.
  • This comes from part of Minthara’s story that was cut before the game’s launch.

Larian dropped the last big patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 last month, giving us cross-play, photo mode, and more. However, just because that was our last content update, that doesn’t mean that the devs have pulled support for good, as we just got another hotfix.

This hotfix makes a range of bug fixes, but in one instance, it actually removes some content from the game. This comes after Patch 8 accidentally reimplemented some controversial cut dialogue into Baldur’s Gate 3, which suggested that Minthara was pregnant throughout the course of the game.

Minthara’s Dialogue About Having A Child Was A Bug

Hotfix 31 removes the cut dialogue from the game once more

As we covered previously, this dialogue relates to an element of Minthara’s storyline that didn’t make the cut. Judging from what’s been datamined, Minthara would have realised she was pregnant after she joined the party, meaning she presumably fell pregnant while working for the Absolute.

In Patch 8, one of these lines of dialogue was added back into the game. With the patch, players who killed Minthara and used Speak with Dead on her could get her to say that she wanted to find a home for herself and her child.

However, Larian has now confirmed that this was unintentional. In a blog post detailing the changes made with Hotfix 31, one bullet point reads: “Removed some defunct dialogue that mistakenly made it into Minthara’s Speak with Dead dialogue in Patch 8.”

So, fear not, the patch was not Larian’s way of trying to sneak that storyline back in. In fact, this is not the first time that a Baldur’s Gate 3 update has accidentally reimplimented cut content for Minthara, as previously, the drow suddenly started breaking up with romanced Dark Urge characters who resisted Bhaal. This, too, was eventually patched out, so that was also part of Minthara’s character that was supposed to be left on the cutting room floor.
