In Baldur’s Gate 3, you have two ways to start your adventure: by selecting a preset Origin character or building your own from scratch. The Origin characters include the six main companions, but also The Dark Urge, who is customisable. All of the Origins give you a set backstory, and then let you play out the rest of the journey however you wish.

But what if you wanted to spice these Origins up a little? What if, say, Shadowheart just didn’t have enough going on in her life, and you wanted to make it way worse? Well then, have I got the mod collection for you.

Turn Your Baldur’s Gate 3 Companions Into The Dark Urge

Mod.io user Lord_President has turned all of the main characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 into The Dark Urge. This means that you can play as Shadowheart, Wyll, Karlach, Gale, Lae’zel, and Astarion with all of the story changes that come with playing as The Dark Urge.

These mods have been available on PC via Nexus for some time, but were just approved for release on console too via mod.io, so everyone can download them now.

The characters still have their unique story elements play out too, so Karlach still has her infernal engine to contend with, and Wyll has the pact with Mizora. So, there might be a few contradictions there, but you can write around them in your head.

If you play the game like this, you will be very busy. You’ll have to Long Rest quite a lot to ensure you’re not missing out on all the extra content, and you’ll have two different stories running parallel to each other. Still, it’s a fun way to mix up the usual Origin runs if you’re looking for something new.

In any case, there’s a whole lot of mods to browse through now, regardless of what platform you’re on. It’s a good thing the community is so active, since Larian isn’t doing any DLC. At least we’ll always have custom campaigns.
