Whether it’s great burst damage, support skills, or utility, there are huge differences between each class and subclass available for your character in Crystal of Atlan. Of course, despite this, some classes will inevitably be better than others. With 11 classes to choose from, with five being base classes that you’ll eventually level out of, choosing the right class for you can be determined by a number of factors.

We take a look at the age, height, birthday, and background of all Genshin Impact’s playable characters, including the new Natlan residents.
Strength, power, and precision, as well as difficulty, all go into determining which classes are the best. Whether you’re playing PvP or PvE can also factor into which class is the overall best to play in the game.
Crystal Of Atlan – Class Tier List
Every class in Crystal of Atlan has at least two advanced subclasses to choose from. When you originally pick your class, following the story will eventually lead you to a quest that allows you to choose your advanced subclass at level 15.
Importantly, you can switch between these subclasses at will while under level 45, meaning you have time to set skills and try out each class and build as you see fit.
Each class tier was determined based on ease of use (including rotation difficulty), damage output, ability in PvP and PvE, and resource management. Every tier is determined as follows:
Tier |
Explanation |
---|---|
S Tier |
These characters have it all. They have an intricate rotation that is fun to pull off, while being able to dish out damage in both PvP and PvE. Their rotations provide the optimal output in solo play and in groups, and they have unique mechanics that put them above other classes. They are also some of the most unique classes in the game. |
A Tier |
These characters are very good, but might be a bit too difficult with their resource management or rotations. They take too long to get into a decent damage-dealing form, sometimes requiring up to level 45 before their damage output reaches its full potential. They most likely will not top PvP lists, but they’re still great in almost any situation, just not the strongest. |
B Tier |
These classes are pretty average all around. They are usually very basic in comparison to other classes and can be quite boring to play. They have limited abilities and will not take you far should you stay using them past their prime. |
S Tier Classes
Tier |
Class |
Explanation |
---|---|---|
S |
Scytheguard |
Being the only party-wide healer and buffer in the game, the Scytheguard is in a unique position. You have the ability to heal yourself, apply a damage reduction barrier, and on top of that deal very good damage. In PvP, she is a force to be reckoned with, as consistently healing yourself while completing your rotation is an option. |
Starbreaker |
Quick, direct damage is always a good thing, and the Starbreaker performs that the easiest. Closing the distance on a target and dealing devastating blows, then being able to quickly run out of danger and rinse and repeat (including in PvP) can have you excelling at every angle, from taking down bosses to quickly dealing with mobs and beating other players in PvP. She is quick enough not to get caught in most instances and to punish any missed hit against her. High stamina also keeps her in the fight, and the straightforward gameplay makes her an easy S-tier to understand. |
|
Magiblade |
Speed and precision are once again making S tier. The Magiblade deals quick damage, but has enough buffs and skills to keep his speed up and give himself damage boosts. The hybrid nature requires you to optimize cooldowns, but the speed and damage tradeoff is worth learning to do so. |
|
Gunner |
One of the slowest characters in this tier, the Gunner makes up for its lack of speed with pure power. One of the best classes for clearing enemies with AoE attacks, and the ability to really tackle content from almost any range makes her great for PvP and PvE with both ranged, mid-range, and melee options. She’s one of the only classes that can do this as well as she does. |
|
Berserker |
Being the best Tank in the game, the Berserker is S tier because it’s such a powerhouse. With the amount of damage you can put out, you’ll almost always be dealing the most damage in the party. The skills are fun and up front and personal, where you can just slam enemies again and again, while even lowering enemies’ movement and attack speed to step in and deal damage while they’re debuffed. The lower your health, the more damage you can deal, meaning you can deal some truly ridiculous amounts of boosted damage. |
The speed and precision of these classes, combined with their damage output and unique abilities, allow them to truly shine. From options of crowd control, healing, and buffing that are unique to these classes, to the ability to mix up their range and optimization depending on the fight, the adaptability within these classes works well for both PvE and PvP.
Importantly, their rotations are also not too difficult to learn, nor are their abilities overcomplicated. You can dish out ridiculous amounts of damage against enemies quickly (for the most part), and you have some unique utility for each class represented that gives you an edge in battle.
Several of these classes are also pretty good at juggling opponents to build very large combo numbers.

Cloudstrider |
While this class deals very good damage, the only reason it’s not in a higher tier is because it takes too long for its power to truly shine through. Until you reach higher levels, you won’t be dealing much damage. With this, you’re also going to have to deal with rotating through different stances, making the rotation a bit more complicated than necessary. |
Magician |
Great crowd control, awesome utility, and flashy spells make this class a great and fun addition. Unfortunately, it’s a bit complicated and reliant on RNG. You’ll need to cycle through the right cards, use whatever RNG gives you, and consistently be aware of what cycles through your rotation, while not being able to optimize should you get the wrong cards. |
|
Blademaiden |
You’ll deal tons of damage, and have such a unique way to deal with enemies. The ability to position and play around with your puppet, with your attacks being mirrored while enemies are stuck in between, is great. The only drawback is that it requires a lot of movement and precision on your part to play her effectively, placing your puppet in the most optimal position. |
|
Bounty Hunter |
Easy and quick to learn, with elemental damage and a nice range to keep you protected. The Bounty Hunter is a great damage dealer that’s easy to play, but doesn’t have the utility to be an S-tier choice. |
|
Elementalist |
Great AoE damage and long range keep the Elementalist as a great A-tier option. As long as you can keep up your rotation, you’ll be able to take out large groups of enemies in PvE. The slower casting times and limited range do prevent him from being S-tier, though. |
|
Warlock |
Another character that doesn’t become ridiculously great until later levels, the Warlock can do some devastating and very cool attacks, with ridiculous damage output. However, this all comes much later than other classes and still depends on ensuring you keep your marks up on enemies. |
Every class here is good. Some are better than others, with utility and options that you just won’t see in other classes. However, the difficulty and learning curve prevent them from being S-tier. You can really button mash any of these classes to get the job done, but without a proper understanding of how they work, your damage output will suffer tremendously.
The Cloudstriker is a great example of a class that does abysmal damage until you properly utilize her stances to make it worthwhile. Similarly, classes like Magician and Blademaiden can do some really cool things, but without proper rotation or understanding, they just fall short of great performance.

Fighter |
Each of these classes is useful for what it can do. However, they all cap out at level 10 regarding skills, so they cannot get any stronger, and are therefore not worth continuing with past level 15. |
Magister |
||
Musketeer |
||
Swordsman |
||
Puppeteer |
While none of these classes are bad, they’re all just beginner classes with very limited skill options. As your skills here don’t go past level 10, and you won’t get anything out of staying in these classes, they’re only useful when starting in the game.
Still, they should be changed into advanced subclasses by level 15 when changing classes becomes available. However, for he time they are meant to be used, they do great damage and don’t require difficult mechanics to pull off decent and quick rotations.
