Summary
- As if there weren’t enough ways to play the original Doom, Limited Run Games has found a way to make it playable on an actual box.
- Via its “Will it Run” edition, the box itself will be able to play Doom, along with the included two copies of the game.
- If that wasn’t cool enough, it will cost $666.66 and be limited to just 666 copies overall.
For long-time gamers, “Will it run Doom?” is as ubiquitous as “Can it run Crysis?” Whenever an opportunity has presented itself, gamers have worked tirelessly to find a way to play the original Doom on nearly anything put in front of them.
There’s even an entire website dedicated to cataloging the various means by which Doom has become playable. Seriously. Oh, and it’s called “CanItRunDoom.”
But it looks like Limited Run Games, the boutique American retailer dedicated to providing special and limited-editions of games, has taken the cake with its latest Doom collection. This time, they got Doom running on the actual box of the Collector’s Edition itself, adding even more to the long-running meme.

The Box Is Also A Game, But It Also Includes A Copy Of The Game
As first revealed on Twitter, the “Will It Run” edition of LRG’s Doom and Doom 2 Collection will make the game playable on the actual box itself.
Naturally, and in true Doom fashion, the package will run gamers exactly $666.66 even, and it will also be limited to just 666 units overall.
While the exact science of how Doom is able to run on a box has not been revealed, it appears that the box itself has a built-in screen, plus some sort of processor that will allow the game to run, or at least some form of it.
Somehow, if that wasn’t enough Doom, there will be a handheld Cacodemon that can also play Doom. Oh, and there will of course be two copies of the game itself to run on whatever machine your heart desires. Now that LRG has upped the ante, it’ll be fascinating to see what gamers make Doom run on next. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving.
