Elden Ring Nightreign’s New Boss Might Be Connected To Miquella

There’s some debate over whether Elden Ring Nightreign is ‘canon’ or not. Although the characters and enemies in Nightreign aren’t directly connected with the events of Elden Ring, FromSoftware has stated that the events of its spin-off happen “in parallel” to the events of Elden Ring, but the universes diverged after the Shattering, the crux of Elden Ring’s narrative.

Although direct connections are scarce, an eagle-eyed Reddit user named Royal-Spray3558 has spotted something very interesting in Nightreign’s newest boss fight.

Nightreign is currently undergoing an event that involves fighting enhanced versions of pre-existing Nightlords, called Everdark Sovereigns. These new bosses are being rotated weekly, and we’re currently on the second week, which pits Nightfarers against an enhanced version of Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow (the Darkdrift Knight).

As pointed out by the poster, this version of Fulghor leaves a familiar symbol behind when he performs his ultimate move: a flipped version of Miquella’s great rune. This rune is also dotted across the boss arena, drawing a potential connection between Miquella and Fulghor. It’s not an exact match which throws some water over this theory, as many of the runes in the base game are only slightly different.

There’s certainly a chance that Miquella and Fulghor shared a connection before the Shattering, but Miquella had yet to possess his Great Rune, as the Elden Ring had yet to shatter.

Still, there’s likely a reason that FromSoftware opted to use this motif during the Fulghor boss fight, but we can only speculate on the intricate connections between Nightreign and Elden Ring, as the team isn’t interested in explicitly expanding the lore beyond what we saw in Shadow of the Erdtree.

The Everdark Sovereign version of Fulghor is available until July 3, after which it will rotate to the next Everdark Sovereign. Presumably, the next addition will be an Everdark Sovereign version of Gnoster, Wisdom of Night (Sentient Pest). Following that, we’re expected to get enhanced versions of Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast and Fissure in the Fog.

Elden Ring Nightreign is currently available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
