- One of the mods adds a new location and quests.
Fallout: New Vegas is a great game, there is no denying that. Many consider it to be the best in the series, so it’s little wonder that it has maintained a thriving modding community, even almost 15 years after it launched in 2010.
Now, that modding journey has reached its natural peak: fishing. That’s right, we finally have dedicated fishing mods for Fallout: New Vegas, so we can kick back, relax, and catch some irradiated fish in the various bodies of water across the Mojave.
Two Fishing Mods Have Been Made For Fallout: New Vegas This Year
Two fishing mods have launched this year. The first, Fishing In Mojave by Nexus Mods user thezomX, can be seen in action in the video above. This works by letting you equipt a fishing rod, which is then usable near a water source. Then, you use the notifications in the corner to know when to reel in, adding a fish to your inventory when you’re successful. The mod adds five different types of fish and some recipes that include them as ingredients.
The other fishing mod, Side Activity – Fishing by user Kungkobra, was uploaded yesterday. This one opts for increased immersion, so it will take longer to catch each fish, but that just means you get to sit back, relax, and wait for them to bite. There are also animations for the fishing, as well as a preview that shows you a 3D model of the fish you just caught.
A 2022 mod, RX Utility Tools from Nexus user Retral-RX, also made fishing rods useable, but these appear to be the first mods wholly dedicated to fishing mechanics.
Not only that, but the mod also adds a new location to the game entirely, which is where you will pick up the fishing rod – which is customisable. On top of all of that, there are NPCs, quests, eight fish models, and a driveable raft. The mod isn’t finished yet, but this will be the one to go for if you want a more intensive fishing experience.
Whichever one you pick, it means that we can finally go fishing in New Vegas. For years, Skyrim fans enjoyed their own fan-made fishing mechanics through mods, until this was added to the game in an official capacity. So who knows? Perhaps the next Fallout will let us sit back, relax, and see if anything bites.
