Mario Kart World Is Now Being Review Bombed After Recent Update

Mario Kart World has gone from being a popular Switch 2 launch title, to the worst thing that Nintendo has ever done since its foundation almost overnight. That’s because of an extremely unpopular update that was pushed out, making it much harder to choose standard three-lap tracks in the game’s online mode, forcing players to compete in races that include unpopular interconnecting roads.

Whenever a developer does something boneheaded like this, we usually see a review bomb take place, as fans rush to platforms like Steam to try and make their voices heard. Unfortunately, Mario Kart World is a Nintendo game, meaning there isn’t really a place to go to review bomb en masse. That doesn’t mean fans aren’t trying though.

It’s not as popular of a place to try and start a review bombing, but Mario Kart World’s user score on Metacritic has seen a pretty sharp decline over the past few days, following Nintendo’s controversial update. At the time of writing, Mario Kart World is sitting at a user score of 7.7, thanks to a flurry of negative reviews that have piled in over the past few days.

All these new kart racers in 2025, and Crash is nowhere to be seen.

Using the Wayback Machine, we can see that Mario Kart World has been hovering around a user score of 8.2 to 8.3 since release, having racked up a total of 160 negative reviews and 1,103 positive reviews by June 22. Fast-forward to today, and Mario Kart World now has 259 negative reviews compared to 1,146 positive reviews. Negative reviews have been piling in much faster than positive ones, with 99 negative reviews left in the last 5 days.

A brief glimpse at these user reviews is enough to see that most of them are about the new update, as users claim they’ve been “scammed”, and that Nintendo is “ruining the online experience”. We can probably expect to see that 7.7 user score drop even more over the next few days, as more negative reviews keep piling in, especially since Nintendo has a habit of sticking its head in the sand and doing nothing whenever it makes an unpopular decision.
