The Switch 2 appears to be performing even better than Nintendo estimated, so much so that the company’s CEO has apologised to those who haven’t been able to get their hands on one. Either you wait on a restock, or rely on scalpers, and it doesn’t seem that the issue is going to go away anytime soon.
According to two industry analysts, we could see Switch 2 shortages until Spring 2026. This would give us almost a full year of Nintendo fans struggling to purchase the next-gen console, something that the company thought it would avoid this time around.
Nintendo Switch 2 Shortages Are Here To Stay, Analysts Predict
This analysis was spotted by Twitter user @Stealth40k, after it was published by Nikkei Asia. Here, it is reported that six million Switch 2 consoles were sold in just one month. For reference, the Xbox Series X/S is estimated to have sold 28 million units in four years, and 75 million for the PS5, so this is a strong start for a console that has only been on shelves for a month as of today.
Few of us will be surprised to hear that the shortages aren’t going away anytime soon, but it is concerning to hear that we might be grappling with this for almost another year. We’re already seeing empty shelves – with one store filling its empty shelves with Wii U consoles instead – and that’s a sight we might just have to get used to for now.
This suggests that the high price tag on the Switch 2 wasn’t a deal breaker for many, despite pushback when it was announced. Unfortunately, that issue is not exclusive to Nintendo, as we’ve seen price increases with Xbox and PlayStation, too. Alas, gaming becomes an ever more expensive hobby, and even with that trend, we’re still seeing shortages.
In the meantime, if you do find the Switch 2 in stock but can’t afford it, Nintendo’s advice is to “experience” its characters elsewhere. However, we have been told that Nintendo is “paying close attention” to the price situation, so at least there’s that.
