Oblivion Remastered’s Crusader Relics Look Great With The Masque Of Clavicus Vile

Summary

  • Oblivion Remastered has changed the fashion landscape of Cyrodiil.
  • There’s now a reason to prioritise good-looking armour sets over just wearing the armour with the best stats.
  • Combining Aedric and Daedric elements is a tasteful contrast.

There has been a seismic movement in Tamrielic fashion since the release of Oblivion Remastered. The game’s vastly upgraded visuals have transformed the opinions of the community; overnight, armour sets once considered ugly are now in vogue.

We saw this in action with Brusef Amelion’s armour — once an ugly armour set with bad stats, now a beautiful armour set with bad stats. We’re also seeing an increased prioritisation of good-looking armour. In the original release of Oblivion, most armour looked strange and clunky, so players would just equip the armour with the best stats. Now, the focus has shifted to being the best-dressed Hero of Kvatch you can be.

With this in mind, a Reddit user named MP2400 has stumbled across a fetching combination of armour pieces – one that combines the pure creation of the Aedra with the unrivalled destruction of the Daedra.

High Fashion

This look is relatively simple: the Cuirass, Boots, Gauntlets and Greaves of the Crusader, combined with the Masque of Clavicus Vile. This stylish look is finished off with the Shield of the Crusader, and a choice between Goldbrand and the Sword of the Crusader. I personally prefer Goldbrand, to bring balance between the Daedric and Aedric elements of the outfit.

This look has proven a big hit with the community. “Looks like an Elden Ring set,” writes Mistuhgee. “That does really look badass, reminded me a bit of Legate Lanius at first, too,” comments AttonJRand, referencing the second-in-command of Caesar’s Legion from Fallout: New Vegas.

Better yet, you can get all of these items at level one. There is no level requirement for the Knights of the Nine expansion; you can obtain all the Crusader’s Relics whenever you wish.

As for the Masque of Clavicus Vile, the quest where you obtain the Masque is technically level-locked to level 20, but you can circumvent this restriction by seeking out the character Umbra, killing her and taking her sword, also called Umbra. Approaching Clavicus Vile’s statue with Umbra in inventory skips to the end-of-quest dialogue, granting you the Masque of Clavicus Vile if you agree to hand over Umbra.

Umbra isn’t the easiest character in the game to kill, but there are well-known cheese strategies that can be done at level one to best her.

However, there is no such exploit for Boethiah’s quest, meaning you’ll need to be level 20 if you want to complete the look with Goldbrand.
