- Project Diablo 2 refreshes several aspects of Diablo 2 to improve the experience.
Project Diablo 2 is a mod that completely refreshes the Diablo 2 experience, sanding off some of the iconic ARPG’s archaic edges, and adding a couple of modern conveniences.
To play Project Diablo 2, players need a legitimate copy of Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. The mod team actively develops the game, resetting servers every four months to keep everything feeling fresh.
The mod has made plenty of positive changes to the original. For example, underwhelming skills and items have been improved, ensuring that every item and skill has a strategic reason for use. There are also plenty of technical improvements, such as 60-frames-per-second capabilities, high-definition shaders and fonts, and widescreen support.
There’s also controller support, something the original Diablo 2 never had.
Project Diablo 2 runs off the original release of Diablo from 2000, not the remaster from 2021, Diablo 2: Resurrected.
Blast to the Past
The mod has been impressing fans of the series, who have been extoling the team behind the project, saying they understand the heart and spirit of the series.
“I legit cannot stop thinking about this game,” writes Benaffleks in a Reddit thread. “It’s a literal time machine back to being addicted to Diablo 2 as a kid […] The best compliment I can give is that it feels like Blizzard North created another expansion after Lord of Destruction, and kept supporting it with new content. None of the new currencies or endgame content feel out of place […] It feels like an actual continuation of Diablo 2.” Rek414 concurs, writing “Project Diablo 2 is the best Diablo game hands down.”
The mod’s website also contains ladders for every class and a list of people who have beaten the mod for the current season. The mod is currently in its eleventh season, which began on May 16,
As for Diablo 4, a vocal part of the community often expresses its discontent with the current rate of content being released for the game. The current Diablo 4 season is themed around the return of Belial, a major boss from Diablo 3.
