All The Horror Movies Produced By Radio Silence

Radio Silence has built a huge presence in the horror genre. Originally founded in 2011 as the production company Radio Silence Productions, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are usually the directors of each project, while Chad Villella and Justin Martinez serve as producers, and the collective also frequently enlists screenwriter Guy Busick for their movies.

Radio Silence broke out with very small-budget indie horror films and found footage offerings, but is now responsible for the revival of the Scream franchise and a new vampire movie with Universal. They’ve grown quite a lot in their craft and are becoming the best horror filmmakers around. While waiting for Ready or Not 2, here are all their current movies you may want to check out.

V/H/S

Short Film: 10/31/98

After Paranormal Activity took off, V/H/S also gained momentum in the found footage genre and saw many new releases, like even 2024’s more sci-fi horror V/H/S: Beyond. Though the first movie started a trend, it wasn’t so great in the reviews department. Also notable is that it was produced by Brad Miska, who is the founder of the horror news outlet Bloody Disgusting.

Radio Silence created the short segment ’10/31/98′ for V/H/S, in which they also star. As the title suggests, it follows a group of characters on their way to a Halloween party in 1998. However, they arrive at the wrong address and choose to explore what seems to be an abandoned house for some Halloween fun, which turns into a harrowing evening of paranormal activity.

Other notable filmmakers involved in V/H/S include Adam Wingard (You’re Next, 2016’s Blair Witch, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla x Kong), Ti West (A24’s X Trilogy, The House of the Devil, and The Innkeepers), and David Bruckner (The Signal, The Ritual, The Night House, and 2022’s Hellraiser).

Radio Silence also served as the co-producer of V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99, and V/H/S/85.

Devil’s Due

Devil’s Due was the first full-length feature from Radio Silence, although it also doesn’t have the most stellar reviews. This movie likewise adopts a found footage style, but it focuses on the growing subgenre of pregnancy horror tied to devil worship, inspired by Rosemary’s Baby and joining the likes of Immaculate, The First Omen, Apartment 7A, and American Horror Story: Delicate.

However, since Devil’s Due came out even earlier, you could say it’s an underrated horror film that paved the way for those future titles. The premise of Devil’s Due follows a husband and wife dealing with a strange pregnancy soon after their wedding, deciding to record their journey, with creepy events soon following. Notably among the cast is Zach Gilford from Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club.

Southbound

Short Films: The Way Out and The Way In

The third movie from Radio Silence was yet another collaborative project with other horror filmmakers, like V/H/S’s David Bruckner and Roxanne Benjamin. Radio Silence is responsible for directing the opening and closing segments, titled ‘The Way Out’ and ‘The Way In,’ but, unlike V/H/S, Southbound connects each segment into one cohesive feature film, and it earned a surprisingly high rating from critics.

Southbound features five storylines that are interconnected, all taking place in the surrounding areas of a desert highway. The most unique part about Southbound is its original horror creatures that represent soul-collecting spirits sent from Hell. They’re winged and skeletal, fleshy monsters with roots that are brutal and frightening and look somewhat like Amnesia’s Wraiths.

Bloody Disgusting founder Brad Miska is also one of the producers of Southbound.

Scream (2022)

After a disappointing fourth installment in 2011, Scream and Ghostface fans were left high and dry. However, in 2022, you finally returned to Woodsboro once again with Radio Silence’s Scream. It’s a true meta legacy sequel that brings back Sydney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Dewey Riley, as well as introduces new characters like the Carpenter sisters, the oldest of whom, Sam, is the daughter of Billy Loomis.

While this still wasn’t as strong of a story as the original two movies, there were some really unexpected moments throughout, and you have a supporting cast of the now Oscar-winning Anora actress Mikey Madison and The Boys, Companion, and Novocaine star Jack Quaid. Jenna Ortega, the new modern scream queen that she is, absolutely kills her performance more than Ghostface.

Abigail

With the 2020s seeing a resurgence of vampire cinema with movies like The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Nosferatu, and Sinners, Radio Silence teamed up with Universal to put their own original and gory spin on Dracula’s Daughter. The eponymous Abigail is a 12-year-old vampire ballerina daughter of a crime boss, and becomes the victim of a kidnapping plot by a band of criminals who have no idea what they’re dealing with.

It’s got an excellent cast that includes Scream’s Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Giancarlo Esposito, and the late Angus Cloud from HBO’s Euphoria. When they unleash Abigail upon themselves, the group must now survive the night, and some of the characters end up as vampires themselves. The mystery behind the kidnapping plot also takes some twists and turns, and a new villain will soon emerge.

Scream 6

Naturally, after the success of the 2022 revival film, Radio Silence returned to tell more of the story of the Scream universe’s final girl sisters, Sam and Tara Carpenter. The duo and their friends have now left behind Woodsboro to take on New York City, where they’re being targeted by a new Ghostface killer, or possibly even multiple Ghostfaces.

Scream 6 works great because it’s another excellent whodunnit mystery with a far more compelling narrative that directly connects to the 2022 movie and 2011’s Scream 4, delivering a bunch of twists that really keep you guessing. Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed now also returns as an FBI agent, and you have a cameo from Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving as Ghostface’s opening victim.

Ready Or Not

The best film Radio Silence ever directed is still their 219 horror comedy Ready or Not. In a new modern era of final girls, Samara Weaving truly stood out with her performance and has become an iconic actress in the horror genre. The entire premise and major supernatural twist reveal at the end were brilliantly done as well.

Ready or Not centers on the affluent Le Domas family, whose son Daniel (Adam Brody) is getting married to Grace (Samara Weaving). On their wedding night, as per the family’s tradition, Grace must choose a card from a mysterious box to initiate a game, and she ends up with Hide and Seek. It turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse because Grace is unknowingly being sacrificed, as the Le Domas family is hunting her with weapons.
