Dragonwilds Fans Are Calling For An Increase To The Max Player Count

Summary

  • RuneScape: Dragonwilds fans are calling for larger max player counts in a single game, frustrated that games are currently locked to four players.
  • Thankfully, it seems as though developer Jagex is aware of the issue, as it has said that the max player count is an issue that has been repeatedly flagged.
  • Unfortunately, Jagex is currently focused on keeping the game stable right now, but is “hoping” to iterate on the max player count once things are settled.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds shadow dropped earlier this week, giving fans of the old-school MMO a chance to jump into a new game with some friends for some Valheim-esque survival gameplay. It’s one of those games that you can enjoy a lot more with friends, and with the RuneScape name attached, you can guarantee there will be massive friend groups out there waiting to jump in.

Unfortunately, those that have more than three friends are finding the game a little disappointing. Right now, the max player count for a game of RuneScape: Dragonwilds is four, meaning that larger friend groups are being split up, or just not buying the game at all, as they’ll be cut off from their friends. It’s a fair complaint, and a little surprising, since you’d have thought that a game branching off of an MMO would have better multiplayer features.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds Fans Are Calling For An Increase To The Max Player Count

It’s an oversight that has now led to fans calling for an increase to the game’s max player count, as a user on the RuneScape: Dragonwilds subreddit called Tsashinnn has called for at least eight players to be allowed into a single game, and argues that it should be able to go up to 16, claiming there’s “no reason” games should be locked to four people.

Surprisingly, in a very refreshing display of developer communication, Jagex’s senior community manager, Jake Blunt, has actually responded to Tsashinnn’s post. In the reply, Blunt explains that a lot of people have already flagged the issue of max player count, and that Jagex is “hoping to iterate on it”, but that the focus of development right now is to keep things stable.

“It’s a great point and one that lots of folks have already flagged, from pre-Alpha to now,” says Blunt. “We’re hoping to iterate on it, but we want the core foundations of the game to be good before we can start scaling things up and developing them towards larger player counts!”

That should be reassuring to any friend groups out there that are having to split up to play with each other, even though Blunt doesn’t really give any indicator as to when the max player count could be increased. In any case, it’s good to know that Jagex is aware that it’s a big fan request, and here’s hoping that it’s part of any official roadmaps going forward.
