Summary
- Starfield will reportedly launch on PS5 later this year alongside its second expansion.
- The Verge reporter Tom Warren said that the port “should be ready,” emphasis on “should”, so it’s still worth taking with a grain of salt.
- Similar claims were made last year by leaker NateTheHate, but he admitted shortly after that his information was false.
Starfield might finally launch on PS5 sometime this year— at least, after a couple of loading screens.
That’s according to The Verge reporter Tom Warren, who said on The Xbox Two Podcast, “They were originally going to do it with that expansion [Shattered Space] and then I don’t know what happened […] They have been working on it for a while, so it should be ready.”
Warren, along with Windows Central executive editor Jez Corden and YouTuber Rand Al Thor 19, speculates that the PS5 port will coincide with the second expansion, which will reportedly launch in the coming months. However, Warren emphasises that “should” is the key word here, so it’s still worth taking with a grain of salt.
Starfield Coming To PS5 Is Only A Matter Of Time
Leaker NateTheHate also claimed last year that Starfield was finally coming to PS5, only to walk back those claims and admit he got it wrong.
That doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen, though, especially with reliable sources like Warren claiming that such a port is in the works at Bethesda right now. Microsoft has radically changed its approach to exclusives over the last couple of years, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer saying that there are no “red lines” anymore, meaning that anything could launch on PS5, from Halo to Gears of War (both of which are rumoured).
We’re seeing that unfold in real time, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to launch for PS5 on April 17 and The Outer Worlds 2 launching day and date on Sony’s platform. Forza Horizon 5 is also due on April 29, which, along with Indy, made up the two most-pre-ordered PS5 games last week. Starfield joining this growing list of heavy hitters isn’t all that far-fetched, especially with a new expansion on the horizon. We’ll just have to wait and see if the leaks pan out this time.
