The Elder Scrolls Online Is Finally Following Up On The Original Storyline

Summary

  • Zenimax announced at the first-ever The Elder Scrolls Online Direct that the Worm Cult has returned and is hungry for revenge.
  • Ten years after being defeated at the hands of the Vestige, they are gathering in Solstice, where the Writhing Wall has split the lush, Caribbean-inspired island in two.
  • One half is a tropical paradise, the other ravaged by the necromancer’s corruption. As a community, we’ll band together to tear down this wall.

Over the last decade, across eight chapters, The Elder Scrolls Online has taken us to the volcanic tundras of Vvardenfell, the lavish cities of the Summerset Isles, and the dragon-ravaged deserts of Elsweyr, just to name a few of the stunning environs we’ve explored. But Zenimax Online is now shifting towards a yearly, seasonal model, reworking how it tells new stories. And to commemorate, the team is returning to where it all began.

During The Elder Scrolls Online’s first-ever Direct, creative director Rich Lambert described the new expansion as a “sequel to the 2014 base game storyline”, as Seasons of the Worm Cult will bring back Mannimarco’s loyal brotherhood of necromancers as they plot their revenge against the Vestige, who, along with the Five Companions, thwarted their efforts to conquer Nirn.

A new 12-person trial will see us return to Coldharbour to destroy an artifact that transforms pain into power.

The story will begin in June on an island south of Tamriel’s coast called Solstice, a Caribbean-inspired paradise where Altmer and Argonian co-exist, their architecture intermingled to make for a truly unique backdrop. There are also tropical forests, luxuriant beaches, and a dockside city called Sunport, as well as the “Writhing Wall,” a towering structure conjured out of raw souls, splitting the region in half. Beyond is a ravaged land standing in stark contrast to the exuberant West Solstice, all because of the Worm Cult’s corruption.

The Writhing Wall will be a focal point in this year’s storyline, as the community must band together to tear down the barrier and reunite both halves of Solstice. This will be entirely server-dependent, so some players may gain access to the other half of the zone ahead of others, confronting the Worm Cult’s “seemingly limitless army” together in a climactic final assault. This will usher in the second part of the season, tying the knot on this year’s narrative.

We can also expect to face new Argonian Behemoths adorned in feathers, stone golems guarding sacred ruins, and a new type of Daedra.

You can access the new story and zone, both dungeon packs, along with the Writhing Wall event as they release by purchasing the 2025 Content Pass. If you buy it before May 7, you’ll also unlock a new mount, pet, emote pack, and limited time customised action.
