The Best Axe Builds In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has a great deal of weapon types for you to work with, which changes up your playstyles and strategies quite drastically, allowing you to experiment with them to find the one that works best for you, then focus on building everything else around it to become an unstoppable force of nature.

The Axe weapon type, for example, is excellent for those who love large, heavy, and devastating weapons, who don’t mind the long attacks, so long as they see their target’s health get chunked with each successful hit. While very cumbersome to use, Axes are very rewarding to use, and will deal the most raw damage out of the bunch, making them worthwhile to try out!

Axe Overview

Axes have many upsides to their use, with their high damage output being amongst the top of the list. However, a less expected element of them is your ability to chain Light, Heavy, Weapon Arts, and Disciplines together for monstrous combos, racking up even higher damage numbers than you thought possible.

Axes are excellent for cutting through enemies, even if they are already attacking, making defense a core aspect of any good build. You will be expected to take a few hits, but will unleash even more in return, especially if your poise remains unbreakable, which is the ultimate gimmick of this weapon type!

Additionally, Axes benefit from high Tenacity and Resilience, skyrocketing your poise, making it very rare for an enemy to interrupt your attacks or break your stance. So, while your attack startup and recovery is slower than, say, the Longsword, you are less likely to be hit out of your attacks, making this the class for those who love to be a bit more tanky in these games!

How Crucial Is Resilience?

While you can wear lighter armor and equip Jade Pendants and other items that are less defensive-focused, you will be at a substantial disadvantage by doing so. Axes thrive on you being ultra tanky and being able to hold your ground, even when being wholloped by incoming attacks from surrounding enemies.

If a slower and tankier playstyle isn’t your cup of tea, then Axes likely won’t be for you. However, if you like to hold your ground and get into the nitty-gritty of things, then this weapon type is calling your name. It won’t be for everyone, and that’s fine, but it is a very rewarding and heavy-hitting weapon type that we love in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers!

This also means you must increase your Vigor any chance you get in the Impetus Repository, as you will be getting hit a lot when charging up your attacks or when linking them together. While it shouldn’t be your primary focus, be mindful of it, as it can drastically improve your gameplay!

Best Early Game Axe Build

Bai Wuchang landing a devastating strike with her Empyrean Greataxe in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

Much like the Dual Blades and Spear, the best Axe in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers can be acquired quite early in your journey, making it a must-get as soon as possible. This Axe is the Empyrean Greataxe, and will be your go-to choice from the moment you pick it up, until the very end of your playthrough, and beyond. It’s that good.

The Empyrean Greataxe can be found within the Shu Sanctum region of Chapter 1, so ensure you explore this area thoroughly if you want to snag it as soon as possible. We recommend seeking it out the moment you get there, as it will pay off dividends from here on out!

Overall, your build will mainly revolve around upping your damage output and ability to take a hit while still unleashing your devastating offense. So, aspects such as your Benedictions, Jade Pendants, and Armor Sets will change drastically as you progress, but you can keep your precious Empyrean Greataxe close after picking it up!

If you have the North General’s Set, you can equip that over the Ming Set for a bit more defense. You can mix and match the sets, too, if you want broader mitigation coverage, but we still like the Ming Set overall, as it does an excellent job at providing both without too many sacrifices for the Axe’s playstyle!

Best Overall Axe Build

Bai Wuchang swinging her Empyrean Greataxe, clashing with her target's incoming attack and negating its damage, and landing a devastating blow in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

Now it’s time to focus on what makes the Axe shine bright, by making the Empyrean Greataxe even stronger than it is by default. For this build, you need to strike the perfect balance between damage and poise, and we feel this one does just that, while adding a little extra into the mix. While the weapon remains the same, its Discipline doesn’t, so ensure you make note of that aspect.

If you went beyond the point of no return and cannot acquire the Empyrean Greataxe, the Scorn Greataxe will be your next best option. Just be sure to have some Benedictions and maybe even a Jade Pendant that boosts fire damage, making it even stronger in battle. Other than that, most everything else will remain unchanged!

Furthermore, everything else will also be changed quite substantially, ranging from the Armor Set to the Benedictions to the Jade Pendants and beyond. Again, you’re looking to be an unmovable object that can also deal tremendous amounts of damage. Anything less is unacceptable with this weapon type!

If you want a bit more balance between pure defense and mitigation, you can still rock the Ming Helmet and Ming Armor, swapping in the Consort’s Bracers and Consort’s Skirt. However, as you progress further into the game, Tenacity will be crucial, and we feel the Loyalty Set offers the best Tenacity, as well as solid mitigation and overall defense!
